Exercise Rehabilitation
Individual exercise rehabilitation with Josh Arden in Cirencester, supporting a return to everyday activity, work and sport.
Who is rehabilitation for?
You do not need to play sport to benefit from an individual rehabilitation plan. I work with people managing persistent pain, recovering from injury or rebuilding confidence with everyday movement. Your goal might be walking further, lifting comfortably, returning to running or getting back to the gym.
Start with your goals
We begin with your symptoms, general health, previous activity and the things you want to do. I assess relevant movement, strength and functional tasks to help establish a starting point. We discuss the findings and whether exercise rehabilitation is appropriate, or whether further investigation or another clinician’s input is needed.
A plan you can put into practice
Together, we choose exercises that match your current ability and goals. Depending on your assessment, these may focus on strength, mobility, balance, endurance or the movements required for a particular activity. I explain what to do, how often to do it and how to review your response, so you understand the purpose of your programme.
Measuring strength and progress
Where useful, I use a handheld strength-testing device and a force plate to measure how much force you produce during selected tasks. These provide repeatable measures that can help establish a baseline and track change over time. We interpret the results alongside your symptoms, movement and everyday function; a single number does not decide whether you are ready to return to an activity.
Progress at a suitable pace
Your programme develops around your response and the demands of your goal. We may adjust the resistance, repetitions, range of movement or complexity of an exercise. For sport, this can progress towards running, jumping or other relevant tasks. We review both what you can do and how confident you feel, adapting the plan when needed.
Rehabilitation that fits your life
Exercises are adapted to your routine and the equipment you can access, whether that is at home or in a gym. Where appropriate, we can use the rehabilitation facilities at The Dyer Street Clinic. We also discuss relevant factors such as sleep, recovery, stress, general health and your overall activity levels. The aim is a manageable plan that supports your life outside the clinic.
Support beyond the appointment
Rehabilitation may be used alongside advice and hands-on treatment where appropriate. We agree how to review progress and what you can work on between visits. The aim is to build your understanding and confidence, with practical tools to help you manage your health over the longer term.
